Women Clothing isn't the Attraction!

In 1 Timothy 2:9-10. Paul specifically talks about women clothing. He advises women in the church, at Ephesus, how to dress as Christains.

1 Timothy 9 "And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. 10 For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do."

This verse was quoted from the NLT Bible version. The NIV version uses the word propriety which means true nature. God created us in his own image and when we become a Christian our inner light should make us attractive to others and not the latest fashions or designer brands that we wear.

The media and today's society want women to think they need the next best push-up bra and the low "V" cut blouse to go with it. To complete the outfit, of course you need the short skirt or shorts and the tight pants. Don't' stop there, what about the accessories, the "bling, bling" to complete your outfit. It's all about women clothing, what you wear. NOT!

Sadly I have heard young teens complain that they can't find one piece swimsuits that are suitable because the trend today is to bare as much skin as possible. If our teenagers recognize this, we must also questions today's fashion trends. As Christian women we must be examples for our young girls in all things including what we wear.

Let's examine the verses quoted above. Women are to dress in modest, suitable, proper fitting attire. We are to be humble in our dress and let the world revere us for our good deeds and Christ like qualities. You can be stylish without being flashy. You can be attractive without the revealing clothes. You will be noticed more by what you do and how you act than what you wear.

Seek wisdom regarding your wardrobe through your quiet time and prayer. If you have a question of whether it is suitable for you to wear then it's probably not. So women let us robe ourselves in humility with suitable attire that is decent and proper for our Women Christian Journey.
